Today is the day of WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg.
How will this affect your WordPress site? A Lot actually, its a entirely new editing experience. WordPress 5.0 has Gutenberg — a new block-based content editor that will change everything in the way of posts, pages and editing your content.
What to do?
WordPress 5.0 is a big update, and as such, it will need more testing. Our goal for the immediate term is to install Classic Editor Plugin on all our clients sites. This will prevent the new Gutenberg editor from taking over your site.
With WordPress 5.0 there is a lot of technical implications, so initially we want to prevent any broken websites and downtime for our clients. Once the site is stable with this update, we will recommend testing the new WordPress on a staging copy of your site.
WordPress has said it will officially support the Classic Editor through to 2021.
We have added this plugin for all our clients and will slowly test Gutenberg and WordPress 5.0 in staging environments in the coming weeks.
If Gutenberg has broken your website
If you are not an existing client, and WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg has broken your website, try installing classic editor plugin first to see if that will restore your site. If not, contact us immediately using the chat on the bottom right, or sign up to one of our WordPress care plans so we can fix your WordPress website asap.
